Friday Favorites

What a crazy week it’s been. My school, like many others, decided to extend Spring Break by a week due to the Coronavirus. I have been feeling all the emotions. Happy to spend a little more time with my girls. Sad because I haven’t been able to see my sweet kindergartners for 2 weeks now. Scared about the virus. Stir crazy from being cooped up in the house for so long. Anxious about all the crazies wiping out the grocery stores. I’m pretty drained emotionally. It’s been a tough week to wrap my mind around and unfortunately there is no end in sight to all this craziness.

I have totally slacked off on here because I’m trying to just be as present as I can for my family and friends right now. We all need some extra love... from a distance, of course!

I intend for this blog post to simply be a reason for my readers to escape and smile. It will be filled lots of fun memories that I have been trying to make for my girls lately. Pictures, funny things my 3 year old says, and new developments from my almost 11 month old.

We have tried our best to get outside for a little bit every day this week. We took a walk several days in a row. We live in a rural part of central Texas and there is a field at the end of our street that has dozens of cows on it. Mackenzie loves to walk down there to go see them. She is dying to actually go into the field and play with them! 🤣 That’s a hard no for me, though! She is so funny. When we are driving out to go see my husbands family we pass many, many pastures that have cattle on them. She will yell, "HI COWS," like they can hear her. But then my Jayson, being the sweet daddy that he is, goes, "Moooooooo," in a muffled cow-type voice. She legit thinks they are talking to her. It is the funniest thing! It makes it hard for me to think of a quick response she says, "mommy why won't these cows say hi back to me?" *face palm*

Arts & Crafts time!

Mackenzie is 100% an arts & crafts kind of girl. We got some washable paint for her to enjoy. We painted rocks, leaves, the sidewalk, our sister (wait til you see that picture 🤣), all the things. She had a blast! The best part... it all washed away with the rain so she got to do it again the next day!

Here is the paint we got her. I’m pretty sure it’s from Walmart.

We also learned that she LOVES cotton candy! She’s got the biggest sweet tooth, just like her mama! I might have eaten half of that tub myself... but she will never know that! 😆

Being COMPLETELY quarantined is almost impossible for us.

Their cousin, Sofia, came over for a quick play date. I don’t know where you are from or what it looks like in your grocery stores but our little town of 3,000 people went crazy. They wiped out shelves of things at both grocery stores we have in town. It was and still is scary to think that people are panicking so much that they are literally leaving nothing in the stores.

I went grocery shopping for just our normal weekly groceries and left with about nothing I usually get. I have had to check back multiple times to get all of our essentials since they are constantly stocking the shelves here. So frustrating!

But I will go as many times as I need to to make sure my girls have what they need. That's what mama's do!

Don't forget your dental hygiene during all this mess!

My sweet little Madison had some fun learning to brush her teeth this week. She reaches for her toothbrush every night now when I brush my teeth. I know Mackenzie enjoyed it for a little while, too, and then she hated it for a little while! Kids... 🤦🏻‍♀️ Let's just enjoy this phase while we can, okay?

She also learned that she can climb. 😳 She has been climbing on everything this week!! She especially loves to climb on top of her sisters indoor trampoline but then she can't figure out how to get off. Panics, starts crying, mommy saves her, she does it again. We do this probably 15 times a day. Maybe she'll learn how to get off soon....

1-2 is seriously my favorite age. They learn so much every single day! She is just the happiest little girl, especially when she is proud of herself. Look at that smile!! How could you NOT love her to pieces?? 😍

Play-doh is life around here! It’s another activity that she could spend hours doing! Now if I could just keep it off the floor........

If you’re new around here, for some reason I seem to do everything wrong in the sleep department when it comes to my girls. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Before I had Mackenzie I swore we would never co-sleep. I stuck true to that for a year and a half! She got really sick one weekend and I was terrified to leave her by herself so I let her sleep in our bed...and she never left. In my defense, she slept all night long. Never woke up. At all. It saved my sanity. 🤪

Fast forward to Madison, here we go again! I’m working my tail off this week to get her to sleep in her crib at night. I have to lay with them for naps otherwise they won’t fall asleep and this was just to precious. I had to snap a picture and then I HAD to get some work done so I just left them there for one more nap in my bed together. They were holding hands and then literally moved their hands right when I was taking the picture. 🙃

Tomorrow, though, back to the crib. Mackenzie‘s big girl bed is in the mail as I type this so she will be in her own room next week! 🤞🏼

I love them with my whole heart but Mama and Daddy need their bed back!

On Thursday we got word that we are shutting down the district I work in until April 6th. I'm not sure how I feel about it honestly. On one hand, I get to spend extra time with my girls that I wouldn't normally get but on the other hand that means I've got to find a new and comfortable routine. I am still expected to provide some instruction to my students and be available to parents during certain hours of the day but that will be interesting with my sweet kiddos by my side all day. I want and need to pay attention to them as much as I can. They need to have things to do, too. They need outside play time, reading time, toy time, etc. I am not a mom who will just plop them down in front of the t.v. all day. It will take some work and lots and lots of grace for myself but I know it will work out okay.

These are crazy times, y'all. Wherever you are, whatever you do, give yourself some grace. No one is perfect. Being cooped up in a house all day long with your kids can and will be hard. Find yourself a routine that makes you feel good. Stick to it. Enjoy the time you're getting with your family as much as you can because God is giving it to us. He is showing up a way to grow closer to Him and our loved ones during this time. It will all be okay.
